Last month hundreds of people came together at Soby’s to raise money for BrightLife – a newly formed organization aimed at increasing awareness about colon cancer.

Tim Bright, the husband of Eta Gamma Chi Omega Jenny Bright (University of South Carolina), was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer just three months before they were married last April.  After surgery was performed to remove a foot of his colon and 12 rounds of chemotherapy treatment were complete, Tim was given a clean bill of health.  However, Tim and Jenny learned in November the cancer was back and that it had metastasized to his lungs.

Tim and Jenny have been told there is no cure for Tim’s cancer, but that there is a small chance his current treatment could knock some of it out, in fact recent test results have shown a 75% decrease in his tumor markers. Although this is great news which shows that the current treatment is working, their journey is far from over. Their commitment to each other and to restoring Tim’s health spurred the creation of BrightLife, an organization founded by friends to raise money to aid Tim on this journey and help educate others about colon cancer.

“Bright” is more than just Tim and Jenny’s last name; it also describes their character as they both emulate the word bright in everything they do.  Throughout his battle Tim has held the same positive, bright attitude and is truly an inspiration to others.

A golf tournament is planned for Monday, April 4, at Green Valley Country Club.  Player spots for the tournament are only $85, which includes 18 holes of golf, boxed lunch on the course and a ticket to the dinner and silent auction for player and a guest.  There are also sponsorship packages available for individuals and local businesses who are interested in supporting our fellow Chi Omega Jenny, her husband and colon cancer awareness and research.  Currently, yellow BrightLife bracelets are on sale to continue to support Tim and Jenny and their fight against cancer.

If you're interested in participating in the tournament or if you want more information about how to help Tim and Jenny, you can e-mail Elizabeth Baker at elizabeth.baker@erwinpenland.com.
